Frequently asked questions
Short answers, grouped by theme, with a link to the full article where there is more to know.
Who this is for: Anyone who wants the answer in one line rather than a guide.
Trials and billing
- Do I need a card to start the trial?
- Yes. Payment details are required up front. There is no cardless trial. See Trials and conversion.
- What happens at the end of the trial if I do nothing?
- It converts automatically and you are charged $29 for the month or $290 for the year, depending on the billing period you chose at checkout.
- How do I cancel before I am charged?
- Open Settings → Billing, choose Cancel, and confirm — before the trial end date shown on your dashboard banner. Cancel in time and no payment is taken. See Trials and conversion.
- Can I have a second trial?
- No. One trial per account, recorded permanently as soon as the trial starts and kept if you cancel. There is no reset path and support cannot clear it.
- Is the trial limited compared with Pro?
- No. A trial account has full Pro access for the length of the trial.
- Why does my statement show Paddle rather than Byteflare?
- Paddle is the merchant of record for every Byteflare payment. That is expected and is not a duplicate charge.
- Where are my invoices?
- In the Paddle portal, reached from Settings → Billing → Manage billing. See Invoices and payment methods.
- Is tax included in the price?
- Prices are shown before tax. Paddle calculates and adds any tax due in your country and shows it before you pay. Add your VAT or GST number in the portal so it appears on the invoice.
Refunds and cancellation
- Can I get a refund?
- Yes, in full, within 14 days of the initial paid charge. Email support@byteflare.app from the account address with the charge date and the reason. See Refunds.
- How long does a refund take to arrive?
- Typically 5 to 10 business days, back to the original payment method. It cannot be redirected elsewhere.
- I cancelled mid-month. Do I get the rest of the month back?
- No. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for. You keep full access until then, with no pro-rata refund.
- What happens to my projects when I cancel?
- Nothing is deleted. Projects beyond the Free plan's 3-project limit become read-only until you upgrade again.
- Do public links I already sent stop working?
- No. Links created while you were on a paid plan keep working for your clients. You will not be able to create new ones on Free.
Seats and teams
- I removed seats. Where is my credit?
- There is not one. Removing seats is scheduled for the end of the billing period and produces no refund and no credit. See Seat billing.
- When am I charged for adding a seat?
- Immediately, prorated for the rest of the current period. If that payment fails, the seat change is prevented rather than partially applied.
- Why can I not reduce my seat count?
- You cannot go below the number of active members. Remove the people first; the error names the floor.
- How long does an invitation last?
- 7 days, and it can only be used once. After that, issue a new one.
- The invited person is signed in as a different address. Will it work?
- No. Invites are bound to the address they were sent to. Either they sign in with that address, or you issue a new invite.
- Can an admin manage billing?
- No. Billing and seats are owner-only, enforced on the server. Admins can run everything else.
- Can an owner see my personal projects?
- No. Personal and organisation workspaces are strictly separated at the database level. See Workspaces and isolation.
Sharing and client documents
- I edited the proposal. Does the client see the change?
- No. Each link is a frozen snapshot taken when the link was created. Revoke it and create a new one. See Public links.
- Can I put a password on a share link?
- No. Access control is the URL itself, plus an optional expiry of 7, 14, 30 or 90 days and immediate revocation at any time.
- Can I extend a link's expiry?
- No. Create a new link with a longer window.
- Can I see whether the client opened it?
- View counts and last-viewed dates are shown on the Team plan. Acceptance is recorded on any plan that can create links.
- Does the client need an account?
- No. A public link opens without signing in.
- How do I remove Byteflare's name from a proposal?
- Any paid plan removes it. The Team plan additionally puts your business name and logo on client documents. See Branding.
Plans and limits
- I deleted a project but still cannot create a new one. Why?
- Trashed projects still count toward the Free plan's limit of 3. Permanently delete it from Trash to free the slot.
- What are the AI limits on the Free plan?
- 20 calls per rolling 24 hours and 5 per rolling hour. Both apply, and failed attempts count. Paid plans and trials are not rate limited.
- Why can I not see Templates or the Branding tab?
- Both require an organisation workspace with active Team billing.
- How do I get Enterprise?
- Enterprise is contracted rather than self-serve. Write to enterprise@byteflare.app with your seat count, timescale and requirements. See Byteflare for Enterprise.
AI and privacy
- Does my client's brief leave Byteflare?
- Yes. The brief text and your scoping settings are sent to a third-party model provider over an encrypted connection to draft the scope. See Privacy, data and AI.
- Does Byteflare store my prompts?
- The usage record written for each AI call holds the account, the endpoint, the prompt tier and the time — not the brief text. The generated scope itself is stored against your project, because that is the product.
- The generation timed out. Did it use up my quota?
- Yes. Usage is recorded per call, so failed attempts count on the Free plan.
- How do I delete my data?
- Permanently delete individual projects from Trash, or delete the whole account from Settings. For data-protection requests, write to privacy@byteflare.app.
- Where is the authoritative privacy statement?
- The Privacy Policy. The support site explains the mechanics and does not restate the policy, so the two cannot drift apart.
Accounts
- Can I sign in with Google?
- Yes. Choose Continue with Google on the sign-in page.
- I never received the confirmation or reset email.
- Check spam and quarantine first. Requests are rate limited, so wait a minute rather than requesting repeatedly — only the most recent link works.
- Is account deletion reversible?
- No. It is immediate and permanent. Export anything you need first, and cancel any subscription before deleting.
- Why can I not delete my account?
- You own an organisation that still has other active members. Transfer ownership or remove them first.
- My dashboard says Beta Tester rather than Pro Trial. Why?
- That variant of the trial banner is shown when the account was created with a referral code recorded against it. The access is the same; only the wording differs.
